Bull Seal off Lundy Island

The supply boat M.S. Oldenburg arrives into the Quay on the south end of Lundy Island.  The South Lighthouse sits on the headland above and the dark menacing Rat Island casts a shadow over the deep waters below.

Excited with their first view of the island the visitors for the day disembark and take in their surroundings.  The track to the island is steep and tortuous, snaking up the hillside.  But, there, lazing by the Quay is a bull seal.

Totally at ease and indifferent to the attention he is now receiving he is snoozing as the tide slowly recedes.  Inch by inch he becomes higher above the water line, his bulk becoming harder to move until he seems to resign himself to sitting on his now dry rock until the sea returns in a few hours..
